Business Development
Business Development
Business development concerns how organisations create new opportunities beyond their existing operations. It goes beyond marketing and sales and may include new products or services, new markets, strategic partnerships, or corporate investment decisions.
Rather than optimising current activities, business development focuses on initiating change when existing strategies no longer deliver sustainable long-term results. It can take place in start-ups as well as large organisations and operates at product, commercial, or corporate level.
What to Expect from the Course
The course approaches business development from an integrated and holistic management perspective. Students begin by analysing an organisation’s core business using the Business Model Canvas. This forms the basis for identifying business development priorities and understanding the structured business development process.
Students are introduced to the Lean Startup methodology to gain insight into innovation, experimentation, and resource-constrained environments. Through practical case work, participants apply their knowledge in realistic decision-making scenarios and conclude the course with a final presentation in a Dragons’ Den–style setting.
